This course is an introduction to the geology of the Earth. We review earth materials -- rocks, minerals and related materials. We look at Earth dynamics -- volcanoes, earthquakes, plate tectonics, streams, groundwater, glaciers, and many other things. Special focus is placed on practical aspects: why is geology important and how does it impact our lives. In the lab section, we introduce the tools commonly used by geologists. In this course, we study the geology, mineralogy and petrology of igneous and metamorphic rocks.
