John passed out the SHSHS insurance agent’s name and address:
Darlene Roue, Lindfors Agency, Inc., 120 2nd St. NW, Fosston MN 56542…..218-435-6585 or 6584 (www.lindforsagency.com) license #20135761
Continued work on the cabin was scheduled for Tuesday, July 23 at 8 am. Discussion centered on how to move the building onto the slab. Involvement of more people on the project is desirable.
The CD matures on July 23. The members present decided to extend the CD another 6 months following a discussion of financial needs in the near future. $2881 will be needed within a month.
The Nature Conservancy may have standing trees available for the taking. Phil G. will check into this.
Jerry Wentzel has some old 2’ x 10’ x ¾” lumber available. John V. thinks he can store this in his shed.
The Society needs to establish the value of the dirt obtained from Keith Dale.
Rock picking needs to be done at the site.
Meeting ended at 8:55 pm. Next meeting is scheduled for 15 August.
Members voted to approve the treasurer’s report.
Old Business:
--- It was decided that the layout of the site would be similar to the map
displayed on the Society webpage, with the windmill close to the heart of the
building area. The door on the little cabin will face north and the door on the
barn facing south.
--- Minor changes to the web page map were suggested.
--- Notification of clear title should be forthcoming any day.
--- John Vraa presented bids from three concrete contractors: A&S,
Carvieau, and Russ&Lawrence. All the bids were within a few hundred dollars
and slightly different in details. A few members present suggested that the
quality of work from the three contractors would be comparable.
--- The group voted for pouring two 6-bag concrete slabs no later than 21 June
2002: 12”x12” around the margin, 3” thick in the center, cut into quarters, ½ “
rebar on 24” centers with more around the margins, and add mesh if cost was
less than $100 for material. Because of the short time frame and the similarity
of the price estimates for the work, the members present decided to resolve the
bid issue. Using written ballots, the members at the meeting voted in favor of
awarding the job to Russ&Lawrence for $2200, with no additional charge for installing
mesh.
New Business:
---John Vraa distributed a “Proposed Plan of Action for Sand Hill Settlement
Historical Society in 2002” (attached). I think this was discussed for the
remainder of the meeting.
Secretary had to take substitute librarian and her daughter home at 9:15.
The meeting continued late into the night without a secretary.
