Sand Hill Settlement Historical Society
Meeting Minutes
20 November 2003

Members present: John Vraa, Helen Estenson, Bernice Wahl, Phil Gerla (recording), Janet Gerla , Jane Vigness

Chairman Vraa called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 16 October were read and approved.

Old Business:
1. Windmill will be moved sometime in the future. John would like to store it some place out of the way because it would be unsightly at the homestead site.
2. John reported that he had written to the Hong family in regard to the old cabin that lies on their land, but he has not received a response.
3. Discussed potential times to work on the barn. Depends on weather conditions this winter.
4. Briefly discussed mowing, seeding, and weed control.

New Business:
1. Jane indicated that the State Arts Board funded the SADI Audience Initiative Develop grant proposal submitted by the Society and SCAN Arts. Members present discussed how the funds should be used and the need to involve Climax School, especially the high school students. Grant funds were given to SHSHS. The Society will manage the funds under direction from the SADI project team.
2. Under an earlier directive by the Society members, a motion was made that the Society recommend that the SADI project team contact Jennifer Tall and arrange, if possible, for her involvement in the SADI grant activities. Motion was approved unanimously. Jane will work as the liasion among SCAN, the SADI project team, and SHSHS to encourage Jennifer to return.
3. Discussed general topics in religion, morality, and rooster behavior/butchering
4. Small Town Saturday will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2004
5. The possibility of hiring a contractor to help with barn re-assembly was discussed. John will check with Charlie Nelson for contractors to contact
6. December’s meeting, to be held on Thursday, Dec. 20, will be primarily for the SADI project team.

Meeting adjourned at 9:12 pm. The next general SHSHS meeting will be held at 7 PM, Thursday, 15 January 2004. This will be the Annual Meeting of the Society, with election of officers. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to attend!
