24 September 2009 --- Sand Hill Settlement Historical Society Minutes

Members present:  Todd Evenson, John Vraa, Ervin and Jane Vigness

No minutes were read since there was no meeting last month and there had been no activity in the checking account.

OLD BUSINESS

John is going to pick up supplies to finish the roof on the barn, which needs to get done before snowfall.  We need to gather our logs from the river bank and by the windmill.  They were moved by the flooding this spring.  Our old sign is also in the trees behind the cabin.  We will try to schedule a work day in mid-November, depending on the weather.

Chris Veenstra from the Crookston Boy Scouts got the window from John and has rebuilt the sashes.  The glass is not in the frames yet.  Chris also made a sign to be put by the barn or cabin in the future.

The Climax-Shelly River Watch team cleaned along the Sand Hill River late this summer.  They used our cabin site and picnic tables to eat after all their hard work.

NEW BUSINESS

Pat Rarick has a wind mill tower that we could use.

We're hoping that Spokely's will dump more potato dirt off at the cabin site this fall.  We would like to do more landscaping, filling in the low spots and steep slopes.  We would like to come up with some planting ideas of

trees, shrubs and perennials  this winter.  We will spray for weeds and plant new grass this spring.

Doug Burd has some cottonwood trees we could use if we can find someone with a potable band saw.  There may be someone in the Red Lake Falls area that has one.

SMALL TOWN SATURDAY 2010:  JUNE 5th

October 22nd meeting will be held depending on harvest.
