Meeting Minutes
21 August 2003


Members present: John Vraa, Eunice Evenson, Phil Gerla (recording), Todd Evenson, Darryl Paulsrud, Ervin and Jane Vigness, Ingrid Lund, Keith Evenson, and Jennifer Tall.

Chairman Vraa called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 17 July were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Balances….. A-savings $10.58, D-savings $1674.63, checking $2917.62, CD $15,000.  Income…. $20 membership, $25 donation (returned check from Eksteins), CD interest $110.74, Lee Estenson memorial $2000 (to be put into A-savings to pay for the cost of a small interior plaque).  Expenses…. $10 for Small Town food sale. Motion and second to approve the Treasurer’s report as presented was passed unanimously.

Old Business:
1. Jennifer Tall described some of the work that she has been doing, including (a) model of the farmstead, (b) scrap book with log cornering and notching information, (c) tentative table of contents for scrap book, (c) summaries of oral histories, (d) recommendations for landscaping the site. She will burn a CD for a permanent record.

2. Mention was made of a play presentation at Red Wing, MN, based on oral interviews, which is similar to the Society’s funding proposal now in review.

3. Discussed the hillslopes and grass/weed situation at the site. A need for mowing help was indicated and a schedule for next year will be developed this winter.

4. The sign at the site blew down last night. Those in attendance briefly discussed what should be done.

New Business:
1. CAP’s share of the Small-Town Saturday income needs to be paid. Moved that a check for $300 be written and forwarded to the organization. Motion approved unanimously.

2. Jennifer and others discussed opportunities and possible problems with Effie Hoverson and Alice Eissner interviews.

3. Chautauqua French Festival at Red Lake Falls & Old Crossing and Treaty Park, scheduled for this coming weekend, was announced.

4. Discussed when we might be able to renew work on the barn and cabin. The greatest needs lie in preparation of the base logs for the barn and repairs to the front of the cabin..

Meeting adjourned at 8:14 AM. Next meeting will be held at 8 PM, Thursday, 18 September. (Note: time was changed to 7 AM early in the week of the meeting)
